the ladder wolfbarb guide with prices.

this is a guide for poor people who want a wolfbarb. so without further delay, here it goes.

first off, lets talk concepts. a wolfbarb is a barb that using wolfhowl, turns into a wolf. why this over any other barb? the answer is simple. you get godly defence, life and attack rating, and with very minimal gear can do hell.

this character is partially gear dependant. essientially, you want to focus on three things, defence, life, and ar. the most important piece of gear is a wolfhowl. on ladder you can expect to pay a pul for a decent one, um for a great one. decent stats =3 to warcries, and 4 or 5 to each of feral rage lyncatroph and werewolf. how do these affect you? lets look for a minute. werewolf will increase your ar, there fore the more to werewolf, the better your ar. feral rage is to be your attack, so you do want this to be fairly high. and finally, any into lyncatroph benefits your life. more here= more life. alright, now that the wolfhowl is covered, what else do you need? there are two steps of equipment. we will call one pre and one attack. the purpose of the pre is to get as many + skills as possible to raise your levels. for people on a budget, i recommend spirit swords. they are easy to make and cheap, and therefore, will not set you far back. if you have tons of stuff, hotos are the best here.(i will not suggest blowing money for hotos here, as you need other pieces of gear more) other things to help bost include any ammy that gives +1 or +2 to all skills(do not get character specfic as these will not work) and armor with +to skills. on a budget, here are some ideas,

seraphs, 2 to skills = um.

the discple set ammy or eye of the elitch = ko or lower

low skins of the viper magi +1 ko or lower.

if you are exceedingly wealthy, then by all means get this:

2xhoto

anni

maras

arach belt

and any runeword that gives +2 to skills

so the purpose of the pre is to raise skills for shout, battle orders, battle command and wolf.

once you acast all of these, then you will want some different stuff

the weapon most recomend is a griz caddy. i have had an impossible time finding a cheap one. the other problem with griz, is the low damage. speedwise, it is the best.

if you are looking for one on ladder, expect to pay at least an ist. until you obtain one, use a bstar(lem at the most)

thats why i chose a different route.

i got a lightsabre for a ko, and this lasted me in hell until i got my azurewrath. the reasons to go this route. for some reason, azures are cheaper than the caddy. the azure i got cost me an um, most can expect to pay um pul for one(mal). i like this for the following reasons:It is fast. ive had no problems due to its speed. it can do decent damage, even to physical immunes. sanctuary. +1 to skills while im attacking.

other ideas that i have tried and have worked include balrog oath, (it is slow though), several botds, better damage, slow again, grief, good for pvm, not for pvp.

the sheild: Stormsheild, good defense, in fact awesome defense, and resist.

this will cost you a pul, and i say it is worth every minute spent getting it.

one other sheild is sanctuary, but being ko ko mal, is only for ones rich enough for it.

boots: gores, are what i like. however sandtreks are good too. lem or pul for either.

gloves: in my opinion, one of the things that has saved me the most in hell are my dracs. lifesteal and the life tap have worked wonders. dracs can range from pul to mal, this is based on their life stolemn and the ammount of strength they give.

other choices include vampguants(pul)

or rends(these cost at least ist.)

belt: verdungoes, for the life and damge reduction. um for this great belt.

other choices are string of ears, which is not at all hard to find, and tgods, which is the worst of the three for this char.

ammy and rings- angelics, 1 ammy, 2 rings, for the ar. do not compromise for any other, as nothing works as well as these which will cost you lem at tops for all 3.

now here is the big problem you will face, armro.

the best, hands down is an eth zoded valor. if you got one, great for you.

if not forget about it there.

this guide for armor for this type of character takes into consideratioon the following factors, defense, life cost. after that it takes into consideration faster hit recovery and resists. then any othe rmods. my top two, and this is a matter of choice, are stone and valor(2 to skills) stone will give you better defence, while valor better life. oh the choices.

if you like the sound of stone, it will cost you mal, or you can make it for shael um pul lum. this armor give 60 fhr and awesome defense, which gives it my best value award. i would shoot for upwards of 1900 defense, aqnd do not, i repeat do not get an eth one.

if you like valor, it will cost you a mal too. unless its plus one then it will cost you an um.

second teir

yes for all you ladder richies, these are second string to armors with lesser cost.

if you are rich, lucky you. i would suggest a coh, then a fort. i do not recomend an enigma as it will not allow you to tele in wolf.

duress- for a little over an um, you can get this nice armor. i do not say it is better than stone or valor, yet has nice features for the cost.

third teir

gangel

shaft

duriels

all less than a pul.

anything else, forget about it.

alright so you have the equipment, now you want charms and sockets. i suggest anything wih over 30 ed, 15 ias, or resists in any socket.

charms- 100 psn scs, or 20 to vitaliy scs- both cost you a pul.

barb torch- just hope you get one from ubers, i wouldnt trade torches, as there are quite a few scams.

annihulus-again scams, but they are so useful.

warcries and mastery gcs- um for either.

so that takes us passed gear.

now first off, if youve been making a barb and put into combat skills, you will need a different one.++++++++DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, PUT INTO THIS SKILL TREE. IT IS A USELESS PIECE OF **** FOR THE WOLF BARB.+++++++++

some things you should be aware of. you are uselss until 79, except you can live and bo. join some baal games, and be rushed. once you hit 79, you will know it was worth it.

1-42 get a rush, mad level in trist until 12, level in act 2 until 14, tomb until 20, cow til 24, ancients, baal til 42.

42-75, rush in nm, mad baal until 75.

75-79 get rushed in hell, ANCIENTS BAAL.

BOOM YOU ARE NOW A WOLF.

well alright, so what did you put into?

1 into taunt.

max shout

max bo

1 into battle commands

max weapon mastery of your choice

max iron skin

put some into increase speed

all the rest into natural resists.

alright

stat wise. strength for the stormsheild.

dexterity, enough to keep you block rate high

life all the rest

energy- none.

things to expect- wow when your friends see a barb that thrives in hell.

great defense( 27k)

great attack.(25k)

if you are poor at least 3.5k life, mine has 5k

things not to expect- massive kill all spell. he can kill, just takes awhile.

massive damage.

magic find.

the 4 biggest weakspots of this barb-

iron maiden.

spellcasters

souls

no magic find

alright, here is the disclaimer. on many places on this site, you might find refrences to the same type of barb with much more life, and better stats. on ladder, and especially on a budget, these are unreal. take into consideration that using my setup, you can do hell, and still not have any items using a high rune, and obtain these stats, and you will see it is amazing. my gear follows.

pre: 2x spirit sword, 1 wolfhowl,1 skins of viper, disciples ammy.

post: azure wrath, stone, wolfhowl, angelic ammy angelic rings stormsheild gores dracs verdungoes.

i spent no more than um pul on any item. i also, found quite a l,ot of the prebuff stuff.

also my character was 85 in two days.

i do 2.5k with my setup, have 5k life, 27k def, and 25k ar.

i would like to thank dr@ke and the people in the othe wolfguide, as they have been such great help. this guide was not intended to steal their ideas, just to give them with a ladder view. the prices were valid on us east ladder,

and for this week. of 10/23-10/27.

any comments may be added, and are encouraged. however, do not expect me to feild questions immediatly. thank you|||This guide was needed, since I never really had much experience with ladder or being in the less fortunate position. It was put together alright, more to the point than in-depth details. Other than that, thank you for this input.

Dr@kE~|||Actually last ladder season and this ladder season ive bought a wolfhowl 3/6/6/6 for lem people dont value these items

Im guessing your on east where there is some sign of smart pubbys or a something|||thank both of you for your input, and yes wolfhowls and everything in general cost more on east ladder. in a bit i will be revising this guide, as tim es change, and hope to get more in depth about items, and skills and the like. however, this was a quick thing for people on ladder wanting this build.|||the wolf howl should ideally be 3-6-6-6. that would be in a perfect game where everything is the same. for most of us, we can find one that is 3-6-5-4 or any combination of stats, for reasonably cheap. on us east ladder, it will cost you a lem for a really bad one and a pul for anything else. obviously, you want those numbers as close to their max as possible. the reason for this is simple. more skills= better life, defense and attack rating=better survival. ok so what do each of these affect? the first number is how many are given to warcry skill tree. this influences and adds to your bos, shout and battle commands, in other words, increasing your defense, life and skill level. so, if you have battle commands, right off the bat, you have 1 more to skills than you would have. the second number is your attack, which is feral rage. i would like to point out that any skills from your pre do not benefit this, other than battle commands. this is important to remember when considering your attacking gear. the third number, lyncatroph influences two very important factors, your life, and the time you remain in wolf. and finally, the last is for wolf, and that boost your ar. so alright, you know all this, what is the point? for you to gain the best bonus for life, defense and ar, you want as many all to skills points as possible. for example, those of us on a budget know that the easiest weapon that gives to skills is a spirit sword. if you have 2 of them, that is +4 to skills. i recomned these because you can get them foor a ko, or make them for even less. now, if you can afford it, 2 hotos would give you +6, and a big boost. however, they require a highrune and a pul each so for now, they blow our budget. alright, so that takes up both hands, what now? if you have access to a seraphs hymn ammulet(cost you um), you will have added 2 more skills on. start seeing the life shoot up by leaps and bounds? unfortunatly, um might be too high a cost for right now. then i suggest the ammy from the discples set, or eye of the elitch, both ammys will give you +1. now as far as rings go, sojs and bks will add to skills, however, both are out of our league for this character. bks range from um-mal, and sojs go from ist um- up. however, each adds 1 to skills for a total of 2 from them.

there are no boots or gloves that can helpp you, but there is a belt. arachnids mesh will add 1 to skills, but cost you over an ist.

lets talk armor. there are two runewords, coh and nigma that will give you +2 to skills. personally, spending for those is a waste of spending in other places for the simple fact that for the price of just one, you could achieve alot more. if you decided you liked the valor, it will give you 2 or 1 to skills, along with some killer d and life. keep in mind that this will be a very useful thing once you hit level 85. until then, skins of the vipermagi, silks of the victor, quehagans will all add 1 to skills. and will cost you very litle.

if you have a 3-5-5-5 wolfhowl, +1 ammy, 2 spirit swords, and +1 armor, you will have bo and shout at 30, and lync and wolf at 12. its all uphill from there.

ok, ok. i wasnt quite honest. there are 3 things i should mention. the first is a very sought after charm called the annihulus which gives 1 to all skills, resists, and exp gained. do i recommend this? hell yes. however, it is very hard to come by as it is only droped by dclone, and trading for it is usually a scam.

if you feel that your bo and shout are lacking, throw in a barb torch for 3 to barb skills, and some other nice mods. i personally say not to trade for one, as key runs are simple enough.

also, warcry grand charms can come with mods and are quite nice to have around. each will raise bo, shout and battle command 1 level, and will cost you an um for a plain one.

on the attack: why i chose what gear i use for my attacking gear.

ok, really fast, i took into consideration the following for what gear my wolf barb uses to attack with: for weapons, it was speed, cost, then damage. after it was any additional mods. for gloves it was cost and mods, belt cost and mods, boots cost and mods.helm was obvious, it had to be wolfhowl. sheild and armor were the most tricky to decide upon. for sheild, i took into account all of the following. its defense, the resists, its other mods, block rate, and cost. for the armor, i took intoo consideration the following, defense, fhr, cost, mods.

lets start with the easy stuff: as far as rings and ammy go, there is no better than the angelic setup, just because of the ar. you want the ar on this charater to be godly as you dont do enough damage for it to be otherwise. they give to life and dexterity, which also helps out.

ravenfrost, you might argue, is better. no, because you will find it is nearly impossible to be frozen as a wolf. also good ravens cost pul each, and then you would have to deal with an ammy, probably pul, so therefore, it is not the great deal it seemed to be. they dont provide half as much ar as one angelic ring, and therefore, are not worth the price for this character.

gloves: i chose dracs, for the life tap, the life steal, and the strength add. also price wise, they are much more reasonable than rends or anything else. the current price is pul-mal for these. some notes on why i favor them. in a close situation, the life steal and life tap really come through as saviours. not only that, but 25% deadly strike means you have a 25% chance to double your damage. nice.

boots: gores for the defense, cost of a pul; and crushing blow open wounds deadly strike. in combination with dracs, they become a true miracle. treks will also work, however, i do not find them as useful as the gores.

belt: verdungoes at the cost of an um, you get a belt with damage reduction, and adds to life. i chose this belt mainly for the damage reduction, so that the weakling monsters had even a less of a chance.

alright now it comes to the hard part. we must choose a weapon.

i went the path not taken by most. i chose an azure, and have never been happier. even when i borrowed some of my more godly friends gear, i still picked the azure over the griefs oaths and botds. first off, you can afford a lightsabre, and it will work in hell until you can get an azure. then, the azure provides enough other type of damage to deal with physical immunes, making it so that there is no monster you cannot slay. the sanctuary has helped rid me of the pesky mana draining ghosts, and those awful doom knights have to step back for awhile. + to attributes is always a great thing, plus this weapon is fast. +1 to skills. indestructable. need i say more? if its not fast enough, you can shael it for even more speed, or 15% ias jewel it with some ed for a nice twist. not enough damage? add some small poison charms, which can help raise that damge to a new level. the ls will cost you a ko, and will hold you off until you can find a cheap one of these.

why this over botds, grief and griz caddy? on ladder it is easier to find than the others, does just as well in my opinion, and cost alot less.

sheild- the storm sheild. tons of defense, and some resists. good block. this sheild has it all, and a t a cost to die for. 1 pul. if it doesnt have fast enough block rate, shael it. not enough resists? um it. you cannot go wrong with this by your side.

alright, the reason i chose a stone over a valor.

first off all, cost wise, it is cheaper to trade for and even cheaper to make than to trade for the valor(if it is +2). if you have a good stone, then it also has more defense than that valor too, un less the valor is eth.

60% fhr vs 30%

15 to rez, none to rez.

the only places valor has stone beat are in the +skills catagory and in the life catagory.

it ended up that i still got more defnse from a stone than a valor with 2 to skills. in the end that decided it for me.

more defense = less damage taken= less life needed.

get the point. also fhr helps keep the attack steady,

well i have an even more limited budget, what do you recomend that i go for?

ok first off, go for the best possible wolfhowl you can find. hopefully you see the importance of this from the first part of this.- pul or lem.

i would say that you should still go for 2 spirit swords, for prebuff, alot of people have unused ones lying around, however i do not encourage *****ing for items. if worse comes to worse, make two characters you wont play on and get them norm rushed, just for their socket quest. socket 2 swords, then get 2x of the follow: tal thul ort amn.

angelic ammy an 2x angelic rings. this should not cost you a bunch, just try to give as much as you can for these.

storm sheild is a must- pay the pul for it, level 73 though you can hold off for a bit.

weapon? if you are going for a griz caddy, get a bstar, it will run you a ko or lem. if you are going for azure or any other sword, get a light sabre. ko or lem.

belt- string of the ears, you can get this for a ko or lem too.

gloves- still gotta say dracs, but orphans calls will work in a pinch until you can afford. remember these have a lev el 76 requirement so you can see what drops from some forges.

armor-shaftstop for the damage reduction, or durys for the resists. if you have great resists, a gangel- lem or pul for any of them. you can also up them at a later time, but i would replace them.

boots- go tearhaunchs until you can afford treks or gores.

note: save your pgems, 40= a pul and you can get alot of decent stuff from them if you are just starting out.

any comments can be added, thank you.|||i created an acc on just to check the prices and it is little more expensive it would of cost me um for a 3/6/6/6/15/15/13 . I wished i had that um its sexy and it had a os so prices arnt that bad.|||wolfbarb= Azure+sheal, Doom runeword(offhand), Perfet wolfhowl, Dracs, Goers, T-god (comon + 40 vita cuz -20 to str and light zorb and +max no brainer over anything eles), dule +20 dex raven (again more vita cuz -dex for PB azure), Ammy Seph is awsome, and yes Tyreals is awsome! no str and +30 to str what you gotta get! My wolf has 10k life with this zero into str just base + gear and is fin fast while every one eles is fin slow I kill alll!!!!!!!!!!! PVM|||i dont like it...|||Wow sounds fun - i'm gonna try it out once i get the items|||I didn't bother reading most of it because the lack of punctuation and formatting made it torturous, but I'll throw in a comment or two.

I know you're building around budget gear but there's some stuff that's worth mentioning (and some of it's really not that expensive). Grief-PB/Azurewrath combo will destoy stuff compared to Azure/SS. If playing hardcore I would go for Dracs (it has 25% open wounds not deadly strike) but otherwise the 350%ED to demons on Laying of Hands is too good to pass up. If you use a weapon without ITD I'll agree that the Angelic combo is great, but with Grief you can use Highlord's with a good Raven and dual leech/AR ring.
