So, I'm a 12 year veteran/ total n00b (I get back into the game around once a year/ every other year) and I've once again fallen prey to Diablo 2's siren call. This time around I want to do something different than my typical strafezon/ light sorc/ wind druid "comfort" builds, so I thought I'd try going back to the build that first got me to buy the game- a frenzy barb. That being said, I'm very cognizant of some of the challenges frenzy barbs face, particularly in the area of survivability and overcoming PIs, so I am focusing not just on maxing damage potential, but also on being able to handle any threat and live through it. Without further ado, my prospective build

Howl 1
Taunt 10
Shout 1
Battle Cry 20
Battle Orders 1
War Cry 1
Battle Command 1
Sword Mastery 20
Increased Stamina 1
Iron Skin 1
Increased Speed 1
Natural Resistance 1

Leap 1
Double Swing 10
Double Throw 1
Frenzy 20
Attributes:
100 Str
100 Dex
Rest in Vitality
Gear:
Sol'd Gladiator's Bane
Sol'd Arreat's Face
25 PDR Ammy (ideally +2 Barb Skills, 25 PDR)
Nature's Peace
'Safety' Crafted Ring w/ 4 PDR, LL & ML
'Safety' Crafted Boots w/ 4 PDR
'Safety' Crafted Gloves w/ 4 PDR
Grief Phase Blade
Lawbringer Phase Blade
On swap: something w/ high % Crushing Blow
Barb HF Torch & Anni
String of Ears, w/ TG's Vigor for heavy lightning filled areas (gloams, etc)
The Lawbringer's Sanctuary Aura makes short work of all undead, even PI ones, and the Decrep breaks other PIs, while reducing incoming damage by 50%. This is reduced another 50% by Battle Cry, then 80 PDR takes care of the majority of the rest of it. CBF prevents them from holding me, and leap provides an exit strategy if things get too hot to handle. Max resists (the gaps remaining in the above gear taken care of by the crafted items, or if needed small charms) and high MDR ensure elemental incoming damage is also reduced to manageable levels. Decent LL% and ML% ensure I'm fully topped up, and Grief ensures my killspeed is acceptable.
For my merc I'm torn between a Prayer Merc w/ Insight for even more safety, or a Might merc w/ Pride for higher killspeed. I guess it would depend on which I felt I needed more, though I'd probably level w/ the prayer merc, until all my gear was in place, then switch to Might to unleash some pain on my enemies.
So, what do you guys think? Recommendations? If anyone's built a similar 'safety' frenzy barb, what challenges did you face? Am I missing something that's gonna get me killed later on, or are there any enemies I am woefully unprepared to handle? Thanks for your input/ advice in advance!|||Battle Cry only needs one point, the decrepify from Lawbringer will override it. And you really only need it on bosses. War Cry is much more useful against mobs and, and it doesn't override decrepify.
Put those 19 extra points into frenzy synergies. Also, I find increased stamina/speed kinda useless on a frenzier.
You probably won't need TG's Vigor on switch either (at least I haven't yet).
If you can grab crushing blow from your boots and gloves instead of the PDR (your PDR is already quite high), you can use BO sticks instead of high % CB weapons. The BO sticks would also help you in the safety department.
Other than that, it looks solid. Grief/Lawbringer can take down pretty much everything.
Have fun!|||Unless you want the PDR some kind of theme (which I don't really get with a Frenzy Barb), it's all mostly useless with Decrep and switching from Battle Cry (which would just get overriden) to Warcry.|||Quote:

Wow. Can't believe that I missed the fact that Barb warcries count as curses. Cool, then, looks like I get to max my synergies after all...
The increased speed is because (unless I'm misinformed) the moment I start running my PDR drops to 0, so I'll be walking pretty much All The Time, which is not viable if I don't have plenty of FRW stacked up. If I am misinformed on this point, I'd love to know...
In terms of BO sticks, with my resists and PDR, I'll be so close to 0 damage per hit, my life pool is pretty much a non-issue. Not to mention w/ the vitality and BO I'll have already, I'll already be over 3.5k, which is a lot larger of a buffer than I'm used to having with my characters. Taking the PDR off the boots and gloves will pretty much double the damage I'm taking per hit, which means that though I very much appreciate the suggestion, I was actually looking for ways to do just the opposite- get 8 MORE PDR in there somewhere, if it can be done w/o substantial sacrifice elsewhere, as that will pretty much 0 me out in terms of incoming damage. (And I agree, the TG's Vigor is probably overkill, I just think it might be fun to bathe in the lightning of a group of gloams while laughing maniacally )
Thanks so much for your input/ advice, if you have any other thoughts or suggestions I'd love to hear them!|||If life is a non-issue make him a titan.
But, with BO sticks you can put 1 point into Find Item and have a decent %chance to hork.
I've never heard of the running/PDR relationship before, I'd have to research it to give you a complete answer. But with a frenzier you're really just running to the crowd, then standing there and swinging. So I don't see the running/PDR thing as much of an issue.
Thanks to 1.13 you can try whatever you fancy fairly easily, so I'd say experiment till you're happy.|||I thought it was block that was reduced, Never heard of PDR getting neglected........Shouldnt be too hard to test.|||If you want a stronger build go with dualgrief, decrep from merc reapers(and merc will kill much faster than the other options). The pdr idea sacrifices so much damage and speed(no highlord, no gores, no arach, no enigma, no loh, no guillaume) with questionable returns(extra strong and aura monsters will still deal a ton of damage, where you need the reduction the most, the least is present)
