Help on ubering

Hey guys,

I just recently reinstalled the game after a couple years off this game and made a barbarian. Now there's something new for me here in d2, Ubers.

I went the other day and destroyed, or tried to destroy the ubers. I must say I had a very hard time with Lilith and couldn't take down Mephisto.

Now, what i,d like to know is why. Why can I do all other bosses easily, but not these two. They give me a hard time with life leech, looks like it dosen't work on them or I don't know.

Here's my gear, please tell me if i have to make changes;

10% 12 str drakuls (if I remember right)

mid anni, cant remember exactly the stats. something like 12-18.

I've got a bunch of 100psn charms, we have to understand here it's primarily a PvP character in the making so I might have to shift some gear while doing ubers. That,s what i'm trying to figure out.

I'm a whirlwind barb, too. I guess that's important to throw out there.

Magnus|||Frenzy and lifetap works way more effectly when doing ubers. WW works on ubers but its more risky.|||I always see lifetap on these forums, what the hell is this mod?

Life leech?|||Life Tap = the necro curse which appears on items like drac's as a %chance to cast when attacking.

the curse, while activated will allow you to leech %50 of you attack damage.

However I am pretty sure that WW will not activate %cance to cast skills (someone please confirm).

With your gear setup. you need more Crushing blow, every successful hit with crushing blow will reduce the monsters life by x% agains ubers as far as i can tell its 1/8 (%12.5? if anyone can confirm again?) Guillaume's Face

Winged Helm from the orphans call set is a good start and it will stack with gores and any other CB u might have.. (u can reach %100 cance to CB)

the actual damage of your weapon will only really help once they get down to the last little bit where CB becomes redundant.

Yeah I dont think the lifetap activates on my WW either, but when I start bashing on monsters without the WW it dosen't take much time that life tap comes into play. But then again it's not like I have the time to notice such thing as my barb rapes all in seconds, except the ubers.

Thanks for the CB hint.|||Whirlwind is not a skill that can utilise CTC items such as draculs and also draculs is only 5% so until then your build needs to have enough life and resists to survive on its own. Whirlwind is a unfocused skill which can make it take a lengthy amount of time to kill uburs but it will tear apart the minions.



Now Mephisto & his minions have what we call 0 Drain effectiveness which basically means there unleechable.

% Life Stolen per Hit is subject to difficulty penalties (reduced to 1/2 in Nightmare and 1/3 in Hell) and a monster's % drain effectiveness which is a hidden stat.

Ill give a example

60% life steel total is around

30% in Nightmare

20% in Hell

A monster with 50% Drain effectiveness would turn this into 10% Lifesteal total against that monster.

Life Tap is not affected by difficulty penalties and % drain effectiveness, and does almost exactly what its skill description says: heals 50% of (physical) attack damage dealt to the target.

Life leech is a complex mechanic to be honest but Life tap simplify's it|||The standard approach--at least what I and the people I know do--is to lure them out one at a time and smash with frenzy, sucking down potions as needed until lifetap procs. As mentioned above, let crushing blow do your work for you. To that end, I'd trade out the Beast for a Death (or last wish--but personally I think that is overkill, and I don't like repair costs). While you are smashing away, use an occasional howl--yes, I had never used howl in all the years I'd played a barb either before ubers--to chase the summons away. If you are still having problems try a lifetap wand on switch. I sometimes run ubers with a friend who uses this. We lure out Meph, he lifetaps him, we kill him in about 20 seconds with no potion use at all.

I changed my build to frenzy. I'm going to try your howl thing tho, but I dont think bunches of minions are a problem.

The only thing, as you said... is getting the first lifetap in. Since Drakuls is 5%, I was beaten once by Lilith at start, because of noobness and a long time to apply the lifetap but otherwise I do think this frenzy build helped a bit. Wearing CoH over Enigma did too... I just tele to the boss, tp up and equip/buff out of there.

Crushing Blow might be nice to speed things up, but to be honest its not like im on a schedule and that I need to save seconds or a minute.

Thanks all, now I can own Ubers easy.|||The ubers themselves are much different than the organ runs. You will want crushing blow or you will be at it for a loooooooong time. Especially with how fast they feel if not under open wounds.

JEB90|||I see, but would I still be alright with just, let's say. Ezerk Death instead of Beast? and still no guillaumes face? or I absolutely have to swap in guillaumes face for the mega ubers?
