[:1]I've been using a gold find barb recently - seemed like a neat idea - and I'm not sure it's worth it. Does anyone have one and can compare with traditional mfing over a lot of runs? Maybe I'm just having bad luck.
I'm level 92 and I'm just running Trav. I've probably ran it 500 times. It hasn't been a total wash - I've found two maras (25 and 28), one 5% bk, a handful of reasonable small charms, one skiller grand charm, a +3 traps/10% fcr ammy, and a one 3 lightning/20fcr magic circlet.
However, I'm not really sure this is paying for itself. I haven't gambled a single rare ring, amulet, circlet or coronet that I would consider "usable" or "tradeable". This is kind of depressing. I thought with so much gambling and at level 92, I was bound to get something decent. I guess not.
Does anyone have hard numbers on this? Is it eventually worth it? Is this a waste of time?
Thanks|||IMO, Goldfind Barbie is a fun build opposed to a serious MF'ing build. It is a break out of the regular MF characters like Hammerdins, Sorcs, Javazons, etc, by GFing (not MFing) to feed our gambling addictions. As a powerplayer who loves to maximize a character's potential to be the best that he can be, I try to load him up with the best possible gear; optimized by the build and direction I prefer playing with.
My gfbarbie has given me much pleasure in being an efficient trav runner, and a capable horker for all manner of charms, uniques, rares, magicals, and of course mid-high runes (Cham & Ohm rune so far).
As for gambling, I did gamble a 2sorc 2socket 27str 14resist rare circlet just a couple of weeks ago, and more than a handful of good rare goldfind boots & tri-resist boots. But since I have not spent much time gambling rings and amulet, I am unable to comment on that. The stuff I gamble are mostly intended for personal use and pleasure of knowing that my efforts paid off in addition to the fun I had while playing him.
Personally, I do not think it is a waste of time. And to answer your question, it would depend on what you have set your gfbarbie out to accomplish. Is he suppose to be a serious bot-like character, doing runs after runs to yield that out of this world type gambled item? Or is he a character that brings you loads of fun playing?
If you are interested, you can read up on my character's recent progress here.|||Well, he's fun and definitely a break out of traditional mfing... but most of all the stuff I've found of value my mf sorc could have found as well (in theory) except for the traps amulet and one of the maras (which was also gambled).
While having fun is important, I want to know that it's on par with getting wealth over a significant length of time. I never expected to find more quantities of medium priced items... however, the ROI has been bad compared to mfing.
Because of this, I'm worried that mfing might have yielded a better return. To me, I can either find the tri-res boots in AT, or I can gamble them. It really does not matter which I do it - just so long as I do it efficiently. The mfer can also get a bunch of stuff to trade for the tri-res boots... and that might ultimately be a faster way to getting them than trying to use the gf barb to gamble for them.
A trav run takes about 3 minutes or so. I'm just curious if it stands to bring in as much wealth over - let's say for the sake of argument - a month's time as an mfer would.|||I think the efficiency of runs by either a GFer or MFer would depend on the current status of the economy in the realm you play in. We are close to a month away from Season End, and trade isn't what it used to be compared to the initial stages of Season Beginning where trades were abundant. Finding a Tal rasha armor now might not bring you as much pleasure as it once did (some even have an entire mule of Tal armors), plus it might not even sell for as much compared to the inventory space it takes up.
I personally have gathered sufficient wealth both in items and runes to stop any form of serious MFing, and redirect my focus to more "fun" type gameplay. Currently, about to try out a Slowazon after remaking my Blizzballer. I go on my GFbarbie whenever I need a break from lvling, and my gambling addiction shifts to high gear.|||I am saying with the current state of the economy.
My mfer still managed to find/gamble several nice amulets in addition to the stuff she found in the pits, AT, trav, etc. My MFer does those 3 areas in about 8-9 minutes - twice the time it takes my gold find barb to do 1 trav run.
So basically, the question is - does the gambling make up for not doing pits and AT? That's really what it comes down to.
The pits or AT can be very rewarding because I bet the odds are higher that we can get a FOH stick for example, and other prized goodies of that kind.
I will keep at it. It's just a little depressing to put some effort into getting some nice gear for this gf barb and it still hasn't paid for itself in several days.
Maybe a pair of boots like this was overkill, but I wanted to have reasonably good stuff:

I'm also using a 24 fhr, 25 strength and 78% gold find belt.

No, gambling does not make up for not running pits and AT.

I can understand how you feel. But it would seem that you aren't the usual bunch of gambling addicts that I am, or the ones I know. The easiest and most efficient way of feeding our gambling addiction is to Goldfind, and a GFbarbie running hell trav excels at doing just that. Most of the GF'ers I know have already amassed enough game wealth and are now after rares & magical circlets, boots, rings and amulets whose drop rates and chances usually depend on your luck. With gambling, this can be easily removed from the equation as they are readily available for purchase (If you have the gold to gamble).

Nice boots. I would love to get my hands on a pair like it. Are they for sale? Haha.|||Those boots are on west/ladder/sc. I would trade them if this gold find barb doesn't pan out after a few days. They are basically the best boots you can get for this build I think, barring better resist %'s and some fhr I guess.
I'll keep plugging away. If I found a nice ring or ammy or circlet every few days or weeks at this # of runs, perhaps it would be worth it as long as the circlet was fairly godly and totalled more wealth than I could have got mfing smaller items in AT/Pits. But if the value ends up being less, than I don't see any reason to use a gf barb... seeing as you can just sell the crap you find in AT/Pits for the rares you want :/|||two weeks ago my bark barb turned a council members body into a ber rune at merphi so im going to say sure its way worth it|||Quote:

I'm sorry, but I can get a ber rune with an mfer in the AT, pits or trav... so there's no point running trav for ber runes. If the ber is the best thing you've ever found there with all of your time spent killing, horking and gambling... then I would say it's been a massive failure.
Just think of all the socketables, rares, magic items, jewels, charms, uniques, etc. that are worth 1hr and much more in this game. It really makes absolutely no sense to gold find in trav only. I did it well over 1000 runs and gambled like crazy. My wealth generation using a standard mf sorc was far better. I am positive that the number of hrs/wealth per day/week is much higher.
Whatever you can potentially find doing gold finding, you can just find something equivalent in AT and then trade it for the thing you really want. Gold finding is not necessary. Just in the last few days, I've found 2 jahs, a 20max jewel, +2 ethereal arkaine's valor, 30% maras and a whole of other lesser items. This is not atypical either. The value of all of these items simply crushes the equivalent value I received using my gold find barb doing trav with the same amount of time spent. Even if you take out the jahs, the jewel itself is worth many hrs on its own.
Over the course of 7 weeks of starting ladder, I have about 75+ hrs of liquid wealth and well over 100 hrs of items (1812 defense 16 aura 45@res ebug vortex exile, just to name one... as well as multiple eth 3.5-3.9k forts, eth tresher infinities - one being 2% perfect ed and perfect -55 lightning pierce, multiple griefs, twenty 35% spirit monarchs including a perfect roll and an ebug perfect, normal ap forts, enigmas, 5 dreams, and all sorts of other items - too many to even list). I've found charms worth a massive number of hrs, like Sharp Grand Charms of Vita - worth a ton. I've found 20% bloodfists with I've upgraded and got 88 def which could sell for massive number of high runes. Oh, I also have a tyreal's might too.
So getting "1 ber" does not at all seem interesting or successful to me. In fact, it sounds like an abysmal failure compared to standard mf runs @ pits, AT, etc.|||Well, Gfbarbies aren't meant to replace our standard Mfer chars. It is merely an efficient means of gaining as much gold with lesser time and effort spent. Goldfinders are mostly made for gambling addicts who have a passion for... well; gambling. Haha. The items and runes that drop or were horked are extra bonuses that comes with the Gold.
