i was planning a Chesent moon Zealer with Cresent moon (im poor) but people on the Paladin board told me that a IK Barb can solo the entire game without much trubble and be a great MF char to boot, and i love WW as a skill to use (or was atleast).
the thing is many things have changed since last time i played (2004) and the IK Barb Guide is abit old, Monsters in Hell have alot more life, IM has been removed, Gloams still hurt a ton ect, so i wonder if the set still works, im not looking for a char the kill everything in 1 hit, im on Battlenet but play solo, im simply too scared of getting killed but some PKer.
i have a Ist rune i could trade for IK Armor and i wanted a Wisp Protecter for Gloams, then i would lvl to 75 in NM Baal and the clear all of Hell, is the IK Barb viable for that, i foresee i need more AR and LL, AR can come from Charms and Ravenfrost. more LL could come from Neck perhaps.
is this a OK plan or do i need a weapon with more Punch in this day and age to succed.

I'm replying more about playing online in public games though. Since the last patch that removed TPPK from the game it has been so much more fun to pub it up in hardcore. I used to hide in private games before last patch but since coming back to the game again it's a lot of fun. That hack ruined the game, no need to be scared of it anymore. Just have to worry about the same "old school" stuff like being careful taking old portals and going near waypoints.
Also the removal of IM is so nice for Barbs (or any melee char for that matter).|||thx for the reply, since its first time i HC i just read the sticky and was worried about getting killed from other players, if they do it the good old way fine, but with a hack is just Meeh.
will try and see if i can join some baal games if i make it thru hell, btw is that hack where people grap the good item drops in seconds still around?
regarding the IK set, do i need more Life Leech or is the 10% ok, i would like a Ravenfrost and Wisp on me so i can take some dmg from the Elements, that leaves Neck, i could craft a blood Neck and then use 3-4 120+ AR large grand charms for the AR or demon limb on switch.

btw do BO and Shout stack?|||I'm not sure about the item pick up hack. I usually don't assume I'll get anything on Baal runs. I do my own item runs in solo games if I need gear.
That 10% is only 2.5% in hell so I'd want a bit more for Hardcore. 2.5% of the huge damage from the IK maul might still be fine though, I'm not 100% sure. I don't have a barb in Hell atm.
Shout and BO do stack. Same with Battle Command (use that as first of the 3).|||talked to a Barb on the HC realm yesterday, and he said 10% is abit low (he used 12% but had a good runeword ) he said with IK i need about 15% to feel "safe" so i guess ill try and get a Ring, if all else is too expensive i can just use the set one from lvl 11 (cathans) or something, Barb lvl 10 now and going ok, but will be nice to get lvl 15 and get some leech
thx for the tips guys, if you have more keep them flowing.|||I've leveled an IK barb on every ladder the past 3-4 ladders. excellent set and you can solo the whole game with primarily the set. The only other things I consider critical are a ravenfrost ring (CBF + highly important AR), and a little extra Life leech. I usually use cathans like you mentioned above, or a carrion wind if you can find/trade (not too pricey really). another option is a rare ring with Life leech and other mods. The toughest issue with IK's is still AR...pick up any charm with AR on it, and rare rings with AR and life leech are golden. I got one with 5% LL and 115 ar (plus a few other stats) very nice combo.
2 shaels in the hammer and your GTG for WIAS (IAS jewels work well too, but they seem to be rare for me this ladder :P ) optimal would be ias/damage jewels, but were talking realistic (cheap) . ammy is flexible... Highlords/metalgrid is best, but I'm currently using a decent rare with barb skill and some mana leech
If your running lean on pre-IK gear stay in Nightmare until 76, and make sure your Strength is high enough for the armor by that time - think you need minimum 180 before set bonuses - but more str isn't bad in this build. the lack of need for dexterity frees up allot of points. Ill often float around 275-300 str after all is said and done, and still have close to 2k life before BO. Hell should be easy meat from their on in. PI's are really a non issue - you do so much elemental damage I rarely worry about trying to get reapers toll on my merc, but it doesn't hurt.
keep Battle Cry on hotkey to help when your missing allot (wuffing). It helps to also have a hotkey option for concentrate on your right mouse button for when your not whirling. you can just hold it down and run around whacking things.
Other than that, follow the guide. It is a bit old but 95% of it still applies. My preferred weapon switches are either echoing glaives for the warcry buff (use this in pub runs), and dual Ali babas if im MF'ing (don't forget a point in find item...very handy MF tool) 2 topaz in your helm and dual Ali's for an easy 200+MF on your Find item with IM gone now the Chaos sanct and WSK are my favorite horking grounds.
at lower/mid levels one of my favorite weapons is aldurs mace. not the most popular item (not sure why) , but with tons of physical damage, tons of leech, and 3 sockets to customize they really are a quality melee weapon for the level. and if you dual wield 2 of those you have no other needs for Life/mana leech for most of NM. very nice stealth weapon, and cheap as dirt|||Its because the damage isnt that great. It really cant pull the weights that butchers' can, it just doesnt have the muscle.|||thx for the advice, ill keep a look out for some more lifeleech and AR.
