short whirls or ??

[:1]at first I wanted to steal a bit of attention in another thread, but then I've decided to start a new one.

2 reasons :

1) I like long intros for threads, and no sense making large intro when jumping into some1 elses thread :P

2) i really want to know answer to this question, and people are more lightly to check out the new thread, than to see what kind of revamp happened in old one

anyways, i am new to WW.

I made conc, zerk and frenzy barbs and I feel that its a shame not to have a WW one!

but my main concern is dmg wise, and 4th and 8th frame (amazingly, I play this game over 8 years and I still haven't ventured into serious number crunching, but nvm that), should I use short or long whirls ?

at the moment I am lvl 32 and am just trolling in RoF.

Atm doing my whirls at damn short range, just a bit from my barb (approx where his aura display ends (aura as in shout/BO display)). I go into pack of mobs, an just dance among them.

now, my question is what is best range for maximum dmg output ?

is it shout/BO limit, a bit more, a lot more ?

as in by pindles bunch and/or listers buddies.|||It takes just under a 1/3 second to reach the 8th frame, so those seem a bit short. I would only try to take advantage of the guaranteed attacks at frame 4 and 8 if your weapon hits at 8 FPA or slower, otherwise the constant stop/starting is likely to actually add more time between your attacks.

If you hit at 4 or 6 FPA then your whirls should be as long as is reasonable, i.e. just try to always keep something within range of your whirl.

*Nope, you can't be interrupted in any way while whirling.|||ah ok then, then moving in triangles or squares makes more sense.

I had the feeling that this isn't quite the best possible solution.

Silence... does monster flee procs with whirlwind ?

I have the runes and the allmighty Colossus Blade, but that monster flee mod worries me.

I will probably have more ww questions in near future, so maybe this thread should rename to "chizra's questions about ww barb" :]|||Silence is the only "high" runeword from 1.09 and it was crappy then. Now with the large variety of RWs for barb, silence is even more crappy. Allres is good and all, it doesnt have any specific "strong sides" in case you wish to max something. IAS, %ED not even decent. Actually, i think many elite unique polearms/spears outmatch this RW.

Obedience is 10 times cheaper and comes with all mods you want to have on weapon except IAS. The ultimate choice for ww barb is eBotd, but if you play SP you may find it difficult to find Zod.|||I play SP and I play witout RWM.

so Obedience and a lot of other juicy RW's are out of my reach.

as for my rune wealth, here it is.

I can cube up to Sur.

and this whirlie is destined to spend eternity in Trav, hunting runes

so a single Vex sounds like a decent and reasonable investment in "HR's to come".

but dex req on it seems a bit too high.

too bad that there aren't any "jewels of freedom of fervor", since I am only 9% IAS away from lwbp.

(btw can that combo even spawn on rare jewels ?)

I will consider.|||Are you crazy? Screw the dex requirement and Shael that thing right now. I'm not 100% sure but with the elite version's required level being 66, you should be level 71 before you can up and wear it. I think fervor is a magic only suffix. Your best best would be something with ED% and IAS but they're damn rare.

If you're keen on making a runeword 2xKingslayer seems like the better option (Highland Blade would be the perfect base), otherwise you can use Kingslayer as your main (above gloves) weapon and Silence off-hand.|||grim scythe is exceptional, bad choice for hell. Upping it may result in good damage total, socket with ias/add jewel.
